Recenently, the website CartoonBrew has found the legendary cartoon ”Dinner Time.” This is the film that inspired Walt Disney to pursue making “Steamboat Willie”. It was a sound film that Walt saw in New York in 1928 and which made him realize that he could do a better job of combining sound and animation.

“Dinner Time” is specifically mentioned in a letter from Walt Disney to his brother Roy and collaborator Ub Iwerks. Excerpts from the letter are reprinted in the Disney bios by Neal Gabler, Bob Thomas and Michael Barrier, but the actual film hasn’t been seen in 80 years. Sadly I could not get a video of it but you can see it here, or at cartoonbrew.com. Thank you CartoonBrew!

This falls into the surprising category. A cast member who fell through a trap door and down 30-40 feet onto the stage before a performance of Disney’s The Little Mermaid on Broadway is now suing Disney! His injuries are significant for sure and you do have to wonder what situation would allow something like that to happen. It will be interesting to see if this just quietly goes away or if Disney feels they’re in the right and are willing to let the case go to court. To find more information, (which I highly recommend) you can visit the New York Times Column.

    Highly Recommending!

$1.1 billion deal  to convert more movie theaters to modern digtal 3-D projecters has been announced by a panel of mega movie studios including the Walt Disney Studios. Many big industries in Hollywood see 3D technology as key to the film industry’s survival. Sadly it boosts ticket costs, so that I am not too excited about. When the deal is completed there should be 2500 theaters equiped to handle the latest 3D technology being used in Hollywood today. So I say Yay! and also Nay! I’m torn up!

Nate Silverman is the winner of Disney Park’s contest “My Favorite Disney Parks Memory.” Of course, it involves a very cute child.

Nate and his family will receive a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the Disneyland Resort, including a night in the Disneyland Dream Suite, airfare, 2-day Theme Park passes and ground transportation for a family of 4. All other finalists will receive an Annual Pass to the Disney Park of their choice. I am so happy they won, because I loved that video!!!

I am completely exhilarated! Tim Burton is making a remake of the classic Disney film “Alice in Wonderland.” It is going to be completely wacky, I know, but I am still excited. Johnny Depp is the Mad Hatter, Mia Wasikowska, Alice, and Matt Lucas is rumoured to be Tweedledee and Tweedledum. I think they picked a perfect Alice, she looks exactly like her from the pictures I have seen. Hope you are as excited as I am! For more information you can go here. I have also put the original trailer in here from the original trailer for the 1951 Disney Film.

This week’s Silly Symphony of the Week is one of my favorites, Music Land. I love it! It is about two kingdoms – Land of Symphony and Isle of Jazz – that are separated by the Sea of Discord. Now everyone is an musical instrument and talks in music, mind you. It is a type of Romeo and Juliet type story and I love it! Enjoy!

Disneyland Fun Fact of the Week:

In the 1950 film “Cinderella,” when Cinderella and the Prince are dancing, just before they go out into the garden, they cast large shadows onto the wall. Their shadows don’t match their movements!

It’s been a couple days of big news on the Walt Disney Company movie front. FirstJohnny Depp confirmed he has at least three films for Disney in his future. First he’ll be doing voice and motion capture acting work for Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland film. Depp will play the Mad Hatter, sure it’s type casting, but hey, Depp is perfect for the role, so why not. The second film announced was that Depp would play Tonto in Disney’s The Lone Ranger. Depp’s part Cherokee, in case you were wondering. Perhaps the biggest news (although we’d mentioned it much earlier on TDB) is that Depp will INDEED be back for a 4th Pirates Of The Caribbean. No news on date or plot. But fountain of youth had been mentioned as a destination before. YAY!

Halloween Time is finally is at Disneyland! The place is looking fantastic and all the decorations are up. The celebration ends on November 2nd, so that everyone knows, and I highly recommend going! If you aren’t yet planning to visit Disneyland for this halloween, then maybe this video from Disney Parks will convince of of the fun you’re missing.

Even though there’s no really meat there, it’s a cute video none-the-less. How about some ‘behind the scenes’ magic or ‘how did they do that’ pieces. Even something about how to make your own Mickey Treats.

Well, lately I have been obsessed with not only Disney, but also Scott Joplin’s Maple Leaf Rag. I LOVE IT! Anyways one of my very good friends, Wayne Taylor C., can play the tune magnificently on the piano. I absolutely adore it! Anyways I think that Scott Joplin is a wonderful pianist and thought I would post the song right here on the blog. Now the video isn’t very good, but still listen to the song!
